Mister Montelli

flutes, viola, clarinets —
three musicians, three instruments, three voices —
a work composed for just this instrumentation —
by the pseudonymous “Mr. Montelli”.

Three women who adopted this name as a trio, drawing inspiration from the multi-faceted sound of this instrumentation, their varied musical experiences, and the narrative threads of music history to tell their own stories.

In their own compositions, improvisations and arrangements, they tell of moonlit tents on steep rocky coasts, of twisted clouds of sound in hazy cellars, colorful markets in scorching heat, and elegant windows behind which pseudonymous women in corsets cast their dreams in sound.

They travel to snowy mountain huts, enjoy the freedom of being alone to feel the longing for closeness in solitude, celebrate boisterous parties on marshy meadows under starry skies.

In melodies and harmonies, words and movements, they philosophize about structures and systems, tell of the intoxication of a time-out, of lost wishes, new dreams and wide spaces, which they fill with their innermost voices playing and singing.

A tightly woven tapestry of accumulated experiences and favorite sounds —
blended into fresh realities of connection, vibrancy and possibility.

Sophie Katharina Schollum — flutes, voice, composition
Anna Magdalena Siakala — viola, vocals, arrangements
Theresa Dinkhauser — clarinets
